Резко изменился характер обезьян. С неприсущей им яростью шимпанзе стали оберегать друг от друга свои "сокровища". В выходные посмотрели Mister Lonely ранее (мне) неизвестного юного дарования Хармони Корина, который прославился тем, что в 19 лет написал сценарий шокера Kids. Весь фильм мучился, пытаясь вспомнить, где я видел лицо главного героя - двойника Майкла Джексона (актер Диего Луна). Оказалось, что именно он был партнером Диего Гарсиа Берналя в замечательном фильме Y tu mama tambien, который вспоминается как алмадоваровский, но на самом деле снят режиссером не из последних - Альфонсо Куароном (третьего Поттера дали снять и в альманах "Париж, я люблю тебя" позвали). Еще Диего Луна отметился во Фриде с Сальмой Хайек и в Терминале с Томом Хэнксом. Очень характерное потерянное лицо. ( Спойлеры... ) Хорошее кино. (Leave a comment)

03:03 pm util [Link]	I took these and uploaded them mostly to document the condition of the place for when I leave, but anyway, some photos of the place I'll call home. I plan to head out in a bit to check out the neighborhood some more. (I was shocked to see it is in fact "Power Ranger" and not a dinosaur on the end of the bed. My memory's less reliable than I thought.) Things to buy: coat hangers, an alarm clock, some drinking cups, a bicycle lock, a shower curtain, hand soap, a plant. The owner gave me a packet of biscuits yesterday. I just munched on a few more: "Egg Yolk Biscuit / Vegetarian Health Food / Delicious Nutrition." They are delicious. Честно говоря, не очень ожидал: не любят Путина, Медведева etc многие, а Самодурову сочувствует гораздо меньше людей. Так что шаг как бы не способствующий популярности. Hey all; I've been party to a great many discussions of what the "steam" in steampunk refers to (steam era, steam power, steam...gears?) but very little mention of the punk element. The title of smacks of the recent cyberpunk, the 80s/90s literary and cinematic genre borrowing both from rapid technological blooms and the punk culture. I've read up on the development of the literary title, but haven't found much regarding the adoption of "punk" - and it is my hope that it wasn't put in for sound or syllables. Punk in the cyberpunk context refers to the disenfranchised, social desolation and by and large a hopeless youth. It perks my curiosity that a group so enthralled by time travel should adopt the "No Future" banner shared by the punks. So, what say all of you? Is the "punk" a reference to a movement in recent history that abandoned the super culture? Possibly a much older use of the term "punk" based on a historical or arcane use? Does it, in fact, refer to the crumbling, fungus-eaten interior of a log? 07:01 am util [Link]	home I have a place in Glen Park now. I'm still not sure how I'll get to work on Monday. A taxi is probably the safest route. (Caltrain's trip planner suggests it would take 3 hours to get there using public transit! Maybe I have made a bad decision. But I think driving, the time should be more on the order of at most an hour, and I plan to use alternative transportation anyway. (I remember last time, the Caltrain site suggested it would take 2 hours to get from my hotel in the same city to the interview when I could've certainly walked that distance in less time.)) The neighborhood reminds me very much of the residential neighborhoods in Dortmund and nearby cities -- super densely packed houses, most of them with a tiny, very neatly kept garden along the street. There was no traffic on the street as I walked on it, up the hill from the BART startion, but there were a fair number of cars parked along the sides of it. The other fellow renting a room in the house had a Prius parked in the driveway. The area seems bikable, at least if you can stand a steep incline. (I'm not sure I could make it. I was a little out of breath just walking up the hill. I guess though that when I'm in a hurry, I'll be wanting to go downhill anyway.) I think the housing materials are also similar to what I saw in Dortmund. Lots of stucco and cement and even some wood slatting. Many of the plants are new to me though. There were a couple neighbors out in their yards, chatting with each other as I walked by. They looked to be middle-aged. They didn't stare at me. My room is furnished. I guess it used to belong to a child though. I've just realized that Steam Powered, the convention in the Bay Area, is going to be held at the same time as the Alternative Press Expo (except SP starts 1 day earlier). Oh, dear, what a terrible choice of dates. :( I should have noticed right off the bat, as I think APE's dates were announced last year. Well, APE is my favorite convention in the world, so that's where I'll be on November 1st and 2nd. I do hope SP will be selling single-day admissions, as there are probably other APE loyalists who'd like to go to SP on the 31st. APE usually has cheap admission, so it's worth checking out if you're in town for Steam Powered and have some spare time. I may have a table there that would also have some of my associate's "I love steampunk" and "Airship Mechanic" shirts, and if so, I'll let people know in advance.
